Watch the GAERC

Tuesday, 15 September 2009 • By Ulrich Speck

Lots of activities today in the EU, with the General Affairs and External Relations Council (GAERC) in Brussels and the European Parliament session in Strasbourg. If you want to listen and to watch some of it, go to the excellent EbS website: here

There, on the top left, you find longer recorded statements on the GAERC by EU foreign policy chief Solana — who is announcing that the Iran talks will probably take place in Turkey — and from Swedish Foreign minister Carl Bildt, who gives an interesting statement on the South Caucasus. Also on foreign policy, there will be at 19.30 (Brussels time) a press conference about the EU-Central Asia Ministerial Conference, live on EbS.

On internal EU business, there is of course Barroso’s speech at the European Parliament. Wednesday MEPs will vote on Jose Manuel Barroso’s bid to become European Commission president for a second term. It seems that Barroso, who is supported by the 27 governments, has secured the  necessary votes. You can see his speech at 15.00 on the EbS site.
